European police agency (Europol) together with law enforcement agencies of a number of countries confiscated fake medical products, doping drugs and medicines worth 63 million euros. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press release of the agency.
So, as part of the SHIELD II operation (“Shield II”), aimed at combating the circulation of counterfeit medicines, law enforcement officers seized about three million fake tools to combat coronavirus. It is noted that the operation was conducted from April to October 2021, more than 20 countries were involved in it.
“law enforcement agencies stopped several attempts of fraud, the objectives of which were national authorities, within the framework of which medicines and medical products were offered, such as masks and disinfectants,” they told in Europol. Representatives of the agency detained 544 suspects in offenses and blocked more than two hundred sites.
In early November, the European Union expressed the hope that Russia will investigate cases of trade in COVID certificates, including the European sample. The representative office of the association reminded that the falsification of documents is prohibited and entails the punishment provided for by the legislation of the country.
