Romania’s Ministry of Defense plans to replace the remaining fighters of the MiG-21 Soviet production by American aircraft F-16. Used fighters can buy in Norway, reports Defence News.
Romania Defense Office plans to purchase 32 F-16 fighter from Norway. Romanian lawmakers will have to approve the purchase of aircraft under the contract worth about 454 million euros.
Romania discussed the purchase of aircraft with several countries. The agreement with Norway implies the payment of 354 million euros for aircraft and 100 million euros – for the logistics and supply of equipment from the USA.
Norwegian side suggested airplanes that are derived from operation. Royal Air Forces of Norway replace F-16 fifth generation aircraft F-35A.
Defence News notes that the purchase of F-16 fighters will allow Romania to write off the remaining fighters of the MiG-21 Soviet production. Previously, part of obsolete aircraft replaced the F-16, which Romania bought from Portugal.
In November, Croatia signed a contract for the purchase of French Dassault Rafale fighters. Airplanes from the presence of the air-space forces of France will be replaced by MiG-21, which are exploited by the Croatian Air Force.
