Gas in Latvia will twice

Latvijas Gaze (Latvian Gas) decided to raise gas tariff for the Latvian population from January 1, 2022. This is stated in the official publication of the country Latvijas Vestnesis, writes LSM.lv.

For households with consumption up to 250 cubic meters of gas per year, the price of gas in the first half of 2022 will grow by 54.2 percent, from 0.71472 to 1,10209 euros per cubic meter. For households with consumption from 250 to 500 cubic meters – by 66.9 percent, from 0.57912 to 0.96649 euros, from 500 to 25,000 cubic meters – by 93 percent, that is, almost doubled, from 0.41668 to 0.80405 Euro. The fixed part of the gas fee in the first half will not change and will be 3.27 euros per month, for the allowed load from 6.1 to 10 cubic meters per hour – 8.99 euros per month, from 10.1 to 16 cubic meters per hour – 14 , 36 euros, from 16.1 to 25 cubic meters per hour – 21.91 euros, from 25.1 to 40 cubic meters per hour – 32.55 euros.

The gas company noted that prices for the population will not grow as much as in the European gas market. There reminded that tariffs for natural gas for citizens depend on its cost on the stock exchange. “Cold Winter in the first quarter of 2021, the post-crisis restoration of the economy led to a rapid increase in the demand for natural gas not only in Europe, but also all over the world, especially in the Asian markets, which led to an increase in gas prices before record heights,” said In Latvijas Gaze.

In mid-August, gas on European stocks cost $ 500-600 per thousand cubic meters. Then the shortage began, which led to a rapid rise in price of fuel several times – in early October, the cost approached two thousand dollars. Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Gazprom to increase gas supplies to Europe to stabilize prices, which led to a decrease in value. On December 10, GAZ traded $ 1186 per thousand cubic meters. As of December 6, 25.6 percent of the injected gas was selected from underground repositations of Europe.
