In 2022, Belarus is going to serve its public debt, including at the expense of new loans from Russia. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Yuri Seliverstov, reports BelTA.
he clarified that a total of 10 billion Belarusian rubles will be paid (290 billion Russian rubles), which is two billion (58 billion) more than in the current year. “We plan to work on refinancing a part of debts with our colleagues from Russia,” – explained the official. Also, Minsk works with the Eurasian Foundation for Stabilization and Development (Russia uses the organization to conduct a part of Belarus’s loans) and can use its currency balances to pay off debts.
In turn, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golzchenko at a meeting with the deputies of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic, said that this year the country practically extinguished external debts that make up about two billion dollars. By the end of the year, 280 million dollars should be sent for these purposes.
Belarusian Belarusians, including internal, almost completely nominated in foreign currency, mainly in dollars. Western sanctions introduced over the past year have hit the main export positions of the republic and significantly limited currency receipts. In order to prevent the default, the authorities of the country were allowed to confiscate currency from legal entities if necessary. In addition, new loans from Russia are being considered.
In March of this year, the World Bank has disclosed data on debt of countries to other states. As of the end of 2019, Belarus with a large margin was the main debtor of Russia – she had to give 8.1 billion dollars. At the end of 2020, the parties signed an agreement on the provision of Minsk billion dollars of additional funds.
