Floods: Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques go back in orange vigilance

Weather France raised the red alert in the two southwestern departments affected since Thursday by strong floods caused by exceptional rainfall.

The situation has improved, on the night of Friday 10 to Saturday, December 11, in the Landes and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, but the vigilance remains of bet. After being placed on red alert, Friday, by Météo-France, the two departments of the Southwest are descended in orange vigilance for, among others, flood and risks of avalanche, in the newsletter of Saturday morning, at 6:10 am .

The meteorological agency lets you know that, on the Pyrenean massif, the rains will continue at the beginning of the day, but are sharply drop in intensity. Orange vigilance should even be lifted from 10 hours. Nevertheless watercourse levels remain high and the decline could take time.

No victim in France, a dead woman in Spain

In the mountains, the risk of avalanche remains possible because of the strong accumulations of snow and the continuation of the strong wind at altitude.

Friday night, these departments were in red vigilance, waiting for the declination of rivers and torrents, out of their bed since the day before it swelled by abundant rains and the melting of a part of the snowy coat in the Pyrenees.

The day had been marked by many firefighters, to rescue people blocked or evacuating people from their homes threatened by floods. No victim was deplored in France, while in Spain, a woman died, on Friday, because of a landslide in the north of the country.
