EU Foreign Minister will discuss possible boycott of Olympics in Beijing

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the European Union on December 13 will discuss the presence of European politicians and diplomats at the Olympic Games in Beijing in Brussels. This is reported by TASS with reference to the source in the Foreign Policy Service of the EU.

It is specified that specific solutions about the possible boycott at the meeting are not planned, diplomats only “exchange views”. “We consider it useful to develop a pan-European approach. However, the final solutions each EU state should take on their own,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

Earlier to the total boycott of the Olympiad in the European Parliament (EP). The Deputy Chairman of the EP and the Deputy Head of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (SVDG) Nikola Burt emphasized that the European Union should not “remain in the shadow of the United States.” In her opinion, the Olympic Games in China became an erroneous platform in the wrong place.

December 6, Washington announced a diplomatic boycake of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, which will be held from 4 to 20 February 2022, in protest against violation of human rights in the Xinjiang-Uyghon Autonomous Region (Suar) in China. On December 8, Australia, United Kingdom and Canada also joined the boycott.
