In the first nine months of 2021, the damage to the state from corruption crimes amounted to 13 billion rubles. This was stated by Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia (CCR) Alexander Bastrykin in a joint interview with the Russian Gazette and Interfax.
8 billion rubles voluntarily returned from this amount, as well as arrest on property for 18 billion rubles – 2 times more than nine months of 2020, counted in the TCR. “In general, it can be said that comprehensive measures in the current year make it possible to completely refund damage caused by corruption crimes,” said the head of the investigative committee. Bastrykin brought an example in Kabardino-Balkaria, where the accused of organizing a criminal community and receiving bribes for illegal transportation of alcoholic beverages arrested 26 properties and 22 vehicles.
According to the head of the SCR, in the first nine months of 2021, the court received criminal cases against 331 persons with a special legal status – seven less than in the same period last year. Most often, of them are attracted to the criminal responsibility of the elected heads of municipalities of local governments (86 people), deputies of local governments (83) and members of election commissions (42).
At the end of August, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that in the first seven months of 2021, 24.5 thousand corruption crimes were revealed in Russia, which became a record over the past eight years. Compared to last year, the number of crimes of this kind increased by 16.5 percent.
