Beijing Winter Olympic: United Kingdom Announces a “Diplomatic Boycott” in turn

Boycotts multiply. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Wednesday, December 8 in turn a “diplomatic boycott” from the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, to which “no minister” of his Government plans to surrender. The United States and Australia have already announced at the beginning of the week a similar measure for these games that will begin on February 4th.

In front of the members, the Chief of the Conservative government stressed that London raised regularly with Beijing the question of respect for human rights by the Chinese regime, in particular the treatment inflicted on the Uygun Muslim minority. “We regularly point these topics with the Chinese and I did it myself with President XI when I told him recently,” Boris Johnson said.

The announcement of the American decision has caused Beijing’s anger, that of Australia, contempt, Chinese diplomacy that “everyone does not know whether Canberra sends official representatives.

According to human rights organizations, at least one million Ouvours and members of other Turkish-speaking minorities, mainly Muslim, are incarcerated in camps in Xinjiang. China is accused of sterilizing women and imposing forced labor. Beijing says camps are in fact vocational training centers to keep their residents away from the radicalization.
