Not only is China is a democracy but it is more than the Western countries that claim as such and especially the United States. This is the message that the People’s Republic is trying to move on to the eve of the Summit on the democracy that the US President Joe Biden organizes, by videoconference on 9 and 10 December. This Beijing ulcer summit for two reasons: it puts China at the Ban of Nations and considers Taiwan almost as a country since the island is on the list of guests. If it is confirmed, the participation of Nathan Law, young leader of the Hong Kong democratic movement – announced on 6 December by the latter on Twitter – will constitute a third provocation in the eyes of Beijing.

The counterattack of the communist leaders concerns an essential point: the United States would not be a real democracy, while China, it would be more and more. To discredit this opponent, it is surprisingly the Institute of Financial Studies of the People University in Beijing that has been involved. He presented on Monday 6 December, in front of a diplomatic area, a brochure of 70 pages posing “ten questions for American democracy”. For the authors of the report, the United States is in fact a plutocracy where “power is at the service of capital”, with a middle class that tends to disappear, a country where freedom of expression gave way to the “Fake News “and who does not protect human rights since” more than 30,000 people are killed by firearm “every year.

At the international level, the American assessment of their point of view is even worse since the United States creates “disasters in other countries”, including “Arab Spring” renamed “Arab winters” by China. Since 1870, Washington has led “392 military interventions abroad”. In summary: In the United States, it is not the people who have power but “six masters”: money, weapons, whites, media, military-industrial complex and narcotics.

“No opposition parties”

Faced with this hell, China is “a democracy that works”, according to the title of the White Paper published on December 4th. Far from being the prerogative of Westerners, “democracy is a common value of humanity and an ideal that has always been cherished by the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people”, read from the first sentence. According to this document, the concept would not come from Athens but from the middle empire. “Five thousand years ago, former Chinese began to explore the concept that people were at the foundation of the state. Their ideas contained the germs of what we know today as democracy.” How to define that this ? “A country is democratic if people are true masters, if people have the right to vote and, more importantly, the right to participate largely, if we make verbal promises during the elections and, more importantly, if these promises are held after the elections (…) “
