Belarusians and Russians should not live in one state. So assessed speculation about the possible unification of the two countries Stanislav Shushkevich in an interview with Lente.ru.
In his opinion, Belarusians “there is nothing to live in the Russian state, where and so many difficulties” and “fight for the Far Eastern problems”, as Belarusians live in Europe.
At the same time, he believes that Belarus should be a neutral state, and not “Russian” or “European”. Shushkevich recalled that the concept of neutral Belarus, involving “friendship with the East and West” was adopted by the Supreme Council of the country of the XII convocation.
He stated that he considers the Russian culture of “one of the greatest in the world”, but called not to forget about the existence of Belarusian culture. “Belarusian culture since 1794 was subjected to restrictions and prohibitions – in the Russian Empire,” said politician.
Earlier in a conversation with “Tape.ru” Shushkevich called “the disintegration of the USSR who clicked on a trigger”
The question of the degree of integration within the framework of the Treaty on the establishment of the Allied State of Russia and Belarus is discussed since the end of 2018. The contract was signed in December 1999, in 2000 he entered into force. The speech about the entry of one state in the other in the document does not go. The current president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, emphasized more than once that the work on the union of Russia and Belarus is absolutely unnecessary. According to him, Belarusians live “in their apartment” and wish to keep sovereignty.
