Estonia presented a full development plan for schools

The Ministry of Education of Estonia presented a plan to fully deruit schools in the country. This is reported by “Sputnik near abroad.”

According to the plan, the country will not remain Russian-speaking schools by 2035. In all state-funded schools, training will be conducted only on Estonian. Against the forced transition made deputies of parliament from the Centrist Party.

However, according to Estonian Minister of Education Lienna Kersny, there is still an unresolved problem with teachers. “We now have more than 3,000 teachers whose level of language knowledge does not meet the requirements. They are sent to courses, but only two to five percent of teachers finish courses and get the necessary level of language knowledge,” she told.

Earlier, Estonian President Alar Caris stated that the refusal of teaching in Russian in Estonia schools is impossible. The head of state also criticized the idea to make only Estonian-speaking higher education. According to him, such actions will be “some discrimination slightly”. At the same time, Caris stressed that the language still remains a significant split factor in society.

Almost 30 percent of Estonian residents consider Russian to be their own native. The Russian-speaking population lives in almost all regions of Estonia, but their most highly concentration in the north-east of the country and in the south-east of Tallinn. At the moment, 74 Russian schools work in Estonia, where you can get an education partially in Russian. The number of objects taught in such schools in Russian does not exceed 60 percent.
