Population of Japan has decreased by almost a million people

The population of Japan from 2015 to 2020 decreased by almost a million people. This became known according to the results of the census, submitted by the Ministry of Administrative Affairs and Communications of Japan.

For October 2020, the population of Japan amounted to 126.14 million people. It is 949 thousand less than in 2015. Three percent (up to 75 million) reduced the able-bodied population aged from 15 to 64 years. Up to 15 million (six percent) in five years has decreased the number of children under the age of 14 years.

In Japan, the average family size decreased. By October 2020, the average number of people in the family decreased to 2.27. This is the lowest figure since 1970.

In addition, the rapid aging of the nation is predicted in Japan. By 2065, 88 million people will live in the country. Of these, 38 percent will make up people over 60 years.
