US imposed sanctions against Cuba officials

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the US State Department introduced sanctions against the nine senior officials of Cuba, representing the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Armed Forces of the country, reports RIA Novosti.

Blinken stressed that visa restrictions against the nine employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Army of Cuba were introduced against the background of “actions undertaken on November 15 and aimed at peaceful demonstrators.” He added that the officials tried to “stroke the voices of the Cuban people through repression and illegal detention.”

It is noted that among the nine these persons there are high-ranking staff from the Ministry of the Interior, as well as senior officers of the Armed Forces of Cuba.

Previously, the United States imposed sanctions against two Cuban officials and military units. The Ministry of Finance substantiated the imposed restrictions “by the continuation of the aggressive persecution of people in connection with the actions for the suppression of peaceful processed protests.” To two persons, the Office of Foreign Asset Control introduced a ban on transactions, and also frozen their assets.
