Midwives: an agreement signed by unions and government for new salary increases

The negotiation finally arrives at its end. The Government announced, Monday, November 22, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with a majority of hospital unions on midwives.

After “a long work of consultation”, the Ministers of Health, Olivier Véran, and the Public Service, Amelie de Montchalin, as well as the Secretary of State for Childhood and Families, Adrien Tauquet, have welcomed in a statement the “important advances” of this document initialed by force (FO), the French Democratic Labor Confederation (CFDT) and the National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions (UNSA), employee side, and the Hospital Federation of France (FHF), employer side.

The Memorandum of Understand includes a “medical exercise premium” of 240 euros net per month from February, and then a salary increase of 78 euros net average from March for midwives public hospitals, whether holding or contractual.

The midwives of local authorities will also have a salary increase of 78 euros net from March. For two months, the profession has mobilized on the occasion of a day of events in early October – the sixth this year – and two strike weekends, carried by most trade union organizations .

However, the protocol does not satisfy all unions in the profession. A new “black weekend” is scheduled for 26 to 29 November, to the appeal of the National Trade Union Organization of Midwives (ONSSF) and with the support of the General Labor Confederation (CGT) which filed Notice to cover the movement.
