Head of Palestine will ask Putin to support peace process in region

The head of a partially recognized state of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas said that he expects the aid of Russian President Vladimir Putin to organize the International Peace Conference on the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. About this politician told RIA Novosti.

Abbas stated that he would ask for the Russian leader to assist the revival of the political process in Palestine. “We are confident in Russian support for our efforts in this direction,” Palestine added. He noted that he wants to “consult” with Putin and report him information about the latest events in the region.

On October 25, the European Union stated that Israel illegally holds the territory on the West Bank of the Jordan River. Also in Brussels, the construction of Israeli settlements in this zone was regarded as an obstacle to achieving a bilateral agreement between Israel and Palestine.

The territory of the West Bank of the Jordan River is under the control of Israel’s army since 1967. Then these and some other lands were occupied by Tel Aviv on the basis of the war with the coalition of Arab countries. Since then, Israel has been built up by Israel, settling their citizens.
