Belarusians promised to show a new constitution in December

The new draft Constitution of Belarus will prepare for the December for public discussion. This was stated by the head of the administration of the President of the Republic of Igor Sergeyenko, the BelTA reports.

According to him, the Constitutional Commission was able to come to a single opinion in the most controversial points on changes in the provisions of the Basic Law. He noted that from March six meetings of the working group were held, which included parliamentarians, scientists, representatives of the Constitutional Court, members of the government.

“During this time there were hot disputes, discussions, the wording for specific articles was worked out,” said Sergeyenko and promised that the authorities would show the Belarusians a ready-made version of the document. The head of the administration added that all this time the band was constantly in touch with the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, who commissioned attentively approach the issue of the redistribution of powers of the head of state between other government bodies.

Against the backdrop of protests that have engulfed Belarus after the presidential election on August 9, 2020, Lukashenko declared the need to make changes to the Constitution and the redistribution of powerful powers. In March 2021, he convened a special constitutional commission from 36 people and stated that it would consider civil initiatives to a new project.

At the same time, the Belarusian opposition has developed its own draft constitution. He involves the transfer of state from the presidential form of government to parliamentary, as well as a significant expansion of civil rights.
