German automotive equipment manufacturer bent closes his site in Yonne

The German automobile subcontractor Benler has announced the closure of his site in Migennes, in the Yonne, who employs nearly 400 people, we learned Thursday, November 18 of the management of the company.

Installed for thirty years in Migennes, the plant that manufactures parts of engines and chassis has been in financial difficulty for several years, losing 10 million euros a year. The site “is no longer competitive”, according to a spokesman for the group. The company has undergone the semiconductor crisis and the decline in sales that has accelerated by the health crisis. “Faced with the big difficulties that undergone Benteler because of the automotive crisis, itself due to the health crisis, Benteler no longer has the means to support the non-competitive site of migennes,” explained the spokesman.

search for buyers

In June, Benler had launched a search for buyers: eighty companies were contacted, three of whom have marked their interest. One of them, the German mutares, filed an offer, but its conditions were “not likely to ensure the sustainability of the site beyond 2024-2025,” the spokesman said. As a result, the Group announced this Thursday, at an extraordinary meeting of its social and economic committee, a consultation in the perspective of the closure of the plant, at the end of 2022, and the removal of its 400 Jobs, including 311 in contract with indefinite duration.

Interviewed, the trade union delegates refused to comment in the immediate future, simply making the blocking of the site until further notice before which, they said, pallets were crammed. Bentler employs nearly 25,000 employees around the world for a turnover of 6.3 billion euros (2020).
