The Gaz-System’s Polish gas operator declared the completion of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline laying, which connects the republic with Gaza fields in Norway. As stated in the message on the website of the project operator, construction is actually completed, during the year the gas pipeline will have to go through the necessary tests, technical tests and coordination.
The last welded seam, which combined the pipes from the coast of Poland and Denmark, was made on Thursday, November 18. The authorized government on the strategic energy infrastructure of Peter Naimsky stressed that this day significantly brings Poland to the differentiation of gas sources and refusal of deliveries from Russia.
The official recalled that the contract with Gazprom is valid until December 2022. Supplies according to it are 10 billion cubic meters per year. This power can fully take on Baltic Pipe, which has comparable bandwidth.
Gaz-System President Tomash Stemplen said that the commercial gas transportation on a new route is expected to start from October 1, 2022. The project implementation is conducted in accordance with the approved schedule.
The length of the gas pipeline is 275 kilometers. It passes through the waters of Denmark, Sweden and Poland. The cost of the project was estimated at 1.7 billion dollars.
In September of this year, Poland confirmed that she did not intend to extend the contract with Gazprom in gas supply. For the first time, this was announced in November 2019.
