Europe again became the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. This reports Reuters.
According to the agency, recently, this region accounts for half the latest cases of infection and death from COVID-19 in the world. These are the highest rates since April 2020, when the virus reached its original peak in Italy.
In connection with this, a number of European countries consider the possibility of re-introducing restrictions in order to prevent the dissemination of COVID-19 on the eve of Christmas. In particular, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte announced the introduction of a three-week partial locked in the country. The Federal Chancellor of Austria Alexander Schallenberg did not rule out that the authorities will decide on strict isolation for unmet people. Italian authorities from December 1 will offer a third dose of vaccine people over 40 years old.
According to the European Union, about 65 people in the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes EU countries, as well as Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein, received two doses of the vaccine, but in recent months, the vaccination rates slowed down. It is noted that most EU countries make additional vaccinations to older people and people with a weakened immune system. At the same time, scientists declare that the priority should be the expansion of vaccination for most of the population. This will avoid making such measures as insulation, they warn.
Earlier, WHO reported that in Europe, patients with coronavirus patients had sharply increased, 10 percent a week from 1 to 7 November. According to experts, Europe turned out to be the only one of the six regions, in which an increase in the amount of deaths is observed. According to the organization, the majority of the diseases of the Europeans are infected with the “Delta” -smm of coronavirus. So, recently, this option was recorded at 99.6 percent of cases.
