The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office proposed to equate cryptocurrency and other virtual assets to property under the Criminal Code, Interfax writes with reference to the speech of the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov in the State Duma. Law enforcement agencies have already prepared the relevant bill.
Krasnov recalled that Russia is becoming more and more crimes committed with the use of modern financial technologies. According to the Prosecutor General, the increase in their number contributes to the legal regulation of the cryprot.
“is still not defined the status of online platforms that provide anonymously buying and selling cryptocurrency, the question of attributing virtual assets to property for the purposes of criminal proceedings is not resolved. We are initiatively a corresponding bill, I will be appreciated for its support.” said Krasnov in the State Duma.
In the current legislation, the digital currency is recognized as the property only under the Bankruptcy Law, on the Executive Production, within the framework of the “antickered” law and the law on combating corruption.
In November, the Ministry of Economic Development suggested another legislative innovation. The department believes that the mining cryptocurrency should be equated to entrepreneurship. This initiative was supported in the Ministry of Energy, as digital money miners use a lot of electricity, and mining in Russia reached a record scale – the country became the third in terms of computational capacity in the world.
