The new Eagle chip from IBM will allow quantum computers to exceed the usual. This is reported by Edition Engadget.
According to representatives of the company, the announced EAGLE processor has 127 cubes that can submit information in quantum form. According to experts, it will take more bits to simulate chip than atoms in all people on the planet.
“Our first 127-cubic Eagle processor is available as a research system in IBM Cloud for elected IBM Quantum Network members,” said Jerry Chow. At the same time, the company’s engineers stressed that a new chip for quantum computations is not yet claiming quantum superiority. However, it is believed that in the future it will be possible.
In 2022, IBM intends to release new chips with a record number of qubits. So, the model Osprey will work with 433 cubes, Condor – 1121 cubic.
Quantum superiority is the property of quantum computers to solve problems that are not able to solve classic computers.
In late October, two groups of Chinese scientists stated that they managed to achieve undoubted quantum superiority with new quantum devices. Both groups headed the physicist Jian-Wei Pan, and in both cases the goal was to calculate the probability of particles at the output of quantum schemes.
