President of Lithuania Gitanas Bested, head of Latvia Egils Levits and the leader of Estonia Alar Caris discussed the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border and, according to the results of the meeting, accepted a joint statement. His text is published on the website of the Presidential Administration of Lithuania.
In a statement, the leaders of the Baltic Republics expressed solidarity with Poland and adopted Warsaw measures to protect the republic from illegal immigrants. Politicians also condemned the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for the exploitation of migrants for political purposes and called for him to take responsibility for “trafficking in persons”. They noted that Minsk forces refugees to cross the borders of the European Union countries (EU), thereby violating the rights and freedoms of people.
To solve the problem, the presidents of three countries called on NATO and all international organizations to pay attention to the situation with thousands of migrants on the Polish-Belarusian border and put pressure on the Lukashenko regime, which is approved by the message, uses migrants for hybrid attacks on the EU.
In early November, several thousand refugees were gathered in Belarus near the border with Poland and Lithuania, who are trying to break through into the European Union. The West considers that what is happening is organized by Minsk.
Migration flow increased from the end of May, when President Alexander Lukashenko threatened to weaken control abroad. The EU plans to introduce a new package of sanctions against Belarus.
