Auditor of the Russian Accounts Chamber Alexey Savatyugin estimated the likelihood of turning off Russia from the SWIFT financial data transmission system. In his opinion, the company is unlikely to go to such a step, because he will actually mean the announcement of the economic war, writes the Agency “Prime”.
“Turning off Russia from SWIFT It seems to me an even less likely event than restrictions on the secondary market of our public debt. In the history of civilization there were only one-time cases of disconnecting individual countries from global information transmission systems such as SWIFT, they can be counted on the fingers of one hand . It is very serious, similar to the declaration of the economic war, “the auditor emphasized. Savatyugin added that the pressure on SWIFT will be difficult from a legal point of view, since the corporation is not state and is not under the control of any government.
Savatyugin added that, although the disconnection of the country from SWIFT will violate the transaction of Russia with the global world, the internal financial system will continue to function. “However, now there is no reason to seriously tighten the rhetoric against Russia, not to mention specific actions. Such a decision can violate our transactions with the global world, but no longer should disrupt our internal financial system. In general, it is neither for us nor they need “,” told the auditor.
Currently, more than 11 thousand largest organizations in more than 200 countries of the world are connected to SWIFT. Periodically, the media publish information that Russia can lose access to this system as one of the more stringent sanctions of the West. In June, the representative of SWIFT stated that this measure was not included in the company’s plans.
