Tests of new weapons began in the United States. The 20 millimeters caliber gatling cannon is designed for a helicopter, which is developed as part of the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (Fara) project. It is reported by Flight Global.
US Army began flight tests of the new gun in October. GENERAL DYNAMICS XM915 was installed on a modified UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, which is used to test individual FARA nodes.
xm915 received three barrels and an electric drive. The rapid fracture is 1500 shots per minute. The publication notes that one-barre systems that are used on American helicopters are capable of producing 1025 shots per minute.
The development of a new gun 20 millimeters was known in March. Popular Mechanics magazine noted that American helicopters will receive a tool that will affect the easiest organic technique. Fara gun options were developed by General Dynamics and Northrop Grumman.
In March 2020, Bell and Sikorsky were chosen in the United States to create demonstration samples of new helicopters within the FARA program. Perspective development will replace BELL OH-58D Kiowa reconnaissance helicopters and part of the drum McDonnell Douglas AH-64 Apache. New helicopters will appear in 2023.
