Estonia plans to stretch a barbed wire along the Russian border, said the Minister of Defense Calle Lanet, writes RIA Novosti.
The authorities decided to build additional protection at the border in the form of a fence with wire. It turns out 130 kilometers along the state border with the Russian Federation. According to the head of the military department, Tallinn is afraid of “possible hybrid attack on the country.”
“Engineering battalion of defense forces is ready to contribute to the installation of a barrier on the eastern border,” said the minister. Laanet believes that Minsk continues the intentional escalation of the “hybrid attack” on the border with Poland and Lithuania, so additional boundaries are needed. He added that Estonia contacts the allied states to coordinate actions in case of exacerbation of the situation at the borders of the European Union.
Recently, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland reported numerous cases of detention of illegal migrants on the border with Belarus. They accused Minsk in creating a migration crisis.
Earlier, Estonia declared the “occupation” of the USSR and called Russia with its main threat. Lanet sees “salvation” in support of the defense budget of Estonia and the development of cooperation with NATO and the European Union.
