Sergey Ryazansky was enrolled by a candidate for astronauts in the cosmonaut detachment in June 2003. After successful exams, the cosmonaut researcher was qualified, and later – “Cosmonaut Test”.
On September 26, 2013, Sergey Ryazansky went to his first space flight as part of the crew of the 37 / 38th long expedition to the ISS, together with the astronaut Roscosmos Oleg Kotov and NASA astronaut Michael Hopkins. During his “space travel”, the cosmonaut took an active part in the implementation of scientific and applied research and experiments, completed three outlets into open space.
Together with Oleg Kotov, the Olympic torch of the Sochi Winter Olympics was carried out in open space, and the second of their exit was one of the most extended in the history of Soviet and Russian cosmonautics – 8 hours 7 minutes. On March 11, 2014, the descent apparatus of the transport piloted ship “Union TMA-10M” with the crew of the ISS-37/38 safely returned to Earth. The duration of Sergei Ryazansky in orbit amounted to 166 days.
On September 8, 2015, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryazansky was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation for courage and heroism, shown in the exercise of a long-term space flight at the International Space Station. By the same decree, he was awarded the honorary title of “Cosmonaut of the Russian Federation”.
In his second space flight, Sergey Ryazansky went on July 28, 2017 as a flight engineer of the ISS-52 expedition, the ISS-53 expedition commander and the Soyuz MS-05 crew commander, along with Randolph Randolph (NASA) and Paolo (NASA). ESA). During the flight, one exit to open space is a duration of 07 hours 34 minutes. The duration of the second flight was 138 days.
After its second space flight S.N. Ryazan scored three books – “Amazing land. Unique photos of the Earth from space”, “Is it possible to score a nail in space and other questions about cosmonautics” and “amazing earth. Planet thousands of colors.”
