They were not entitled until then, unlike other social security schemes. A death capital of nearly 3,500 euros will be paid to the families of non-employee farmers dying after a disease, an accident or a suicide, voted the Senate on Friday, November 12th.
Parliamentarians have adopted amendments to this effect from the RDSA (gradual majority) and centrist union as well as the government, as part of the first reading review of the Safe 2022 budget project.
The measure responds to a commitment of the government plan to support farmers in distress and suicide prevention, by allowing agricultural social mutuality to improve the assistance provided to families in the case of the chief operating manager or a family member working on the operation.
An answer to the “expectations of bereaved families”
The Corinne Imbert CORPORTOUTER (Republicans) supported a measure ranging “in the sense of greater equity” and which will not result in rising contribution, as the government is committed.
By equity between agricultural insured, the amount of the death principal must be equivalent to that guaranteed for the rights of agricultural employees, a lump sum of € 3,476 (value of 2021).
The Senate had launched a consultation at the end of 2020 to gather testimonials from relatives of farmers in difficulty that ended their days, in order to “develop useful and concrete tracks to combat these silent dramas”.
The proposal of this death capital was among the proposals at the end of the consultation. “This meets the expectations of these bereaved families,” said Hérault Henri Cabanel (RDSE) senator in the hemicycle.
