NATO expresses solidarity with Poland and the Baltic countries – Lithuania and Latvia – in connection with the migration crisis on the border with Belorussia. This is stated in a statement on the official website of the Alliance.
The text states that the crisis is an artificially created situation, part of a hybrid attack against the Western neighbors of Belarus for political purposes.
“These inhuman actions are threatened by the lives of vulnerable people. NATO and its allies express solidarity with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia,” said in a statement. They also say that Western countries carefully monitor the situation and its possible escalation.
NATO also calls for the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko “to terminate these actions, respect human rights and freedoms and follow international law.”
The flow of migrants from the territory of Belarus in the EU sharply increased this year, after Lukashenko, against the background of the next exacerbation of relations with the West, threatened to weaken control abroad. The European Union and the United States are convinced that this situation is artificially resigned by the Belarusian authorities.
