In Europe, they called the disconnection of the Belarusian countries from the Russian gas “purely hypothetical opportunity”. Such an assessment was given by the official representative of the European Commission given to the spinant, TASS reports.
The spinn also noted that the European Commission “prefers not to speculate on this topic.” A similar opinion was expressed in the Ministry of Energy of Germany. The department stated that they took note of this opportunity and regret the position of Minsk. At the same time, the representative of the Ministry of Energy is confident that Russia will be able to fulfill its obligations under contracts and ensure the safety of deliveries.
In November, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that Belarus would block the supply of Russian gas to the EU in the Yamal-Europe pipeline, which passes through the territory of the country. So Lukashenko reacted on the likelihood that Poland will close the border with Belorussia against the background of the migration crisis. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov stressed that Lukashenko’s statement was not agreed with Moscow.
The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against the Government of Belarus. The block believes that Lukashenko’s migration crisis is to blame for the influx of migrants into the country against the background of cooling in relations between Minsk and the West. Sanctions may also touch airlines, which EU suspects refugee transport to Belarus.
