By the end of 2021, at least one million children can die from hunger in Afghanistan. This forecast voiced at the briefing a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) Margaret Harris, RIA Novosti reports.
“malnutrition continues to grow in Afghanistan as a big challenge for healthcare. It is estimated that 3.2 million children under the age of five may suffer from strong malnutrition by the end of the year,” said the representative of WHO. According to her, now the organization has sent funds to treat malnutrition in children in 47 medical institutions in 23 Afghan provinces.
“But it’s a drop in the sea. We are a heavy battle with hunger, which covers the country,” the Harris stated. She added that “the world should not and cannot afford to turn away from Afghanistan.”
