Tokyo intends to solve the question of belonging to the islands of Kunashir, ITUURUP, Shikotan and Habomai and sign the corresponding peace treaty. This was insisted by Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoshimas Hayashi, the quote leads RIA Novosti.
“Regarding a peace treaty with Russia, our task is to resolve the issue of [Kuril’s] islands, without shutting it on the shoulders of subsequent generations,” the Foreign Minister said.
In mid-October, the new Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kisida in the course of debate in parliament made a statement that the sovereignty of Tokyo spreads to the southern smokers. Like the Foreign Minister, he called on to solve this issue, not leaving him the following generations.
Due to the dispute about the belonging of the southern part of Kuril Moscow and Tokyo cannot sign a peace treaty on the results of the Second World War. Japan believes the islands of ITUURUP, Kunashir, Shikotan and a group of Habmioma Islands with its “northern territories”. In turn, Russia does not recognize the fact of the territorial dispute itself.
