Latvia’s army is ready to respond to the aggravation of the migration crisis on the border with Belarus. The commander of the National Armed Forces (NVS) of the Republic of Leonids Kalnins said on the air LTV channel.
He stressed that the Latvian armed forces are ready to immediately respond to a possible mass influx of illegal migrants from the territory of Belarus.
According to the head of the NVS, daily 100-150 soldiers and militia provide support to border guards. Kalnins added that if necessary, the army is ready to mobilize additional forces from different regions of the country and to send them to the border guard.
“We have a ready-made response plan, and we consulted both border guards and the Ministry of the Interior,” he noted.
Previously, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Lithuania Mantas Adomenas declared the willingness of Lithuanian border guards to open fire, if armed “green men” will break through the border with Belarus.
