Finnish authorities are developing a bill that allows employees to recognize the salaries of their colleagues, writes Reuters.
Residents of the European country can request this information from the employer if they suspect that they are subject to discrimination on gender. “The priority of the Government is the elimination of unjustified discontinuities in wages,” said the Minister for Equality, Thomas Blomkovist. The bill can be approved in April 2023.
Objections on this occasion have already been put forward employers and trade unions. For example, the largest organization of Finnish employers Confederation of the Finnish industry encouraged to allow the provision of information about the difference in salaries on a voluntary basis.
Mandatory publication of such information will lead to universal curiosity and deterioration of the working atmosphere, the senior legal adviser to Katya Lepopenne is confident. In 2020, women in Finland earned 17.2 percent less than men.
Earlier, McDonalds announced its intention to eliminate the difference in the remuneration of men and women in the same positions by 2022. The company decided to additionally invest in equal pay after receiving information that women around the world earn a little less.
