The measure, which had been canceled in 2014 from the right, makes its return to Spain. Free medically assisted procreation (LDC) for “single women, lesbians and bisexuals” has been restored by the Government of Socialist Pedro Sanchez, announced the Ministry of Health, in a statement, Wednesday, November 10 . It has also been decided to “expand it to transsexual people in gestation capacity”, reports the same source.
The measure, which entered into force on Wednesday, should concern some 8,500 women in Spain, according to the ministry, who welcomed an “important step”. This right to the LDC for all was long-standing by the Spanish organizations for the defense of LGBT persons. Because since a 2014 decision of the People’s Party then in power, the LDC was only covered for heterosexual couples with fertility or medical problems. People who can not procreate without LDCs, such as single women or lesbians, had to turn to the private sector.
