Military presence of the United States in the entire Black Sea region should be increased, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Romania Bogdan Aurscu (Bogdan Aurescu), reports Digi24 TV channel.
According to him, during a conversation with the American Secretary of State of Anthony Blinken (Antony Blinken), he assured him that Bucharest is ready to help develop the US strategy in the Black Sea. The minister has already sent “some preliminary ideas.” According to the head of the military department, countries need to form a multilateral approach to security.
“American military presence in the region, like troops, and technology, should be reinforced not only in Romania, but also in the southern part of the Eastern Flank,” he called.
The Minister believes that the situation in the Black Sea region affects transatlantic relations in general. Auriesca added that the last 30 years the region was a “conflict zone”. He brought an example April 2021, when Russia allegedly conducted a “mass deployment of troops”. “The largest such deployment since the Cold War in the region, there are a lot of equipment left there,” he said, and added that this fact should disturb NATO.
Earlier, the Foreign Minister of Romania emphasized the importance of close coordination to discuss the new NATO strategic concept for further consolidation “deterrent and defense positions throughout Eastern flank, especially in the Black Sea.”
