A theory of “contagious” dark matter is proposed

The international group of physicists offered a new theory, according to which dark matter occurred from the usual (baryon) matter and is also able to create more dark matter from ordinary matter. This is reported in the article published in the magazine Physical Review Letters.

According to the new theory, a certain amount of dark matter was created in the “thermal bath” when the primary plasma consisting of ordinary matter, spawned the particles of dark matter. At some point, new particles of dark matter began to produce even more particles of dark matter from ordinary particles. This process continued until dark matter has reached the amount that is observed today.

It is noted that with this scenario of “infection”, ultimately, nothing, except for particles of dark matter might not be left in the universe. However, scientists suggest that the reason for which this did not occur is the rapid expansion of the universe. Since at the early stage of its existence, the universe was smaller and more densely, dark matter could easily come into contact with ordinary matter and convert it. The expansion led to the fact that space objects went further from each other, and therefore dark matter met with ordinary matter more frequently.

The simulation results demonstrated that such a theory could explain the amount of dark matter, which is considered to exist. If their ideas are true, then in the cosmic background, traces of the process of transformation of the baryon substance should remain, which will prove the theory.
