European Union announced readiness to tighten sanctions against Belarus

VRIA Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs Hachiko Maas stated that in the European Union (EU) ready to tighten the sanctions against the Belarusian authorities because of the influx of migrants to the border with Poland. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“We will offer sanctions on all who participate in the targeted import of migrants. [President of Belarus Alexander] Lukashenko should understand that its calculation does not work. By the way, this does not exclude the expansion of sanctions in other fields of economics in the future,” said Virio Head of Foreign Ministry.

he added that in the European Union, they consider important and “explanatory work in the countries of origin” illegal migrants. It is about readiness not to give false promises, because of which migrants “pay thousands of dollars” and which “lead them into the Belarusian forests.” Maas added that he should also “ruthlessly indicate the consequences” for “every action of Lukashenko”.

On November 9, the European Union Council tightened a visa regime with Belarus because of the migration crisis on the border with Poland, which was aggravated on November 8. In particular, a simplified mode will be suspended.

The migration crisis on the eastern border of the European Union began in May 2021. Refugee groups from Africa and the Middle East began to massively cross the border of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia from Belarus. In the escalation of the migration crisis, the authorities of the affected countries accused Minsk and Moscow.
