Europe hit plywood of Russian oligarchs

Deliveries of birch plywood from Russia to Europe will begin to be created by permanent anti-dumping duties instead of the temporary acting since June of the current year. This is stated in the report in the official magazine of the European Union. The decision was made following the consideration of complaints of European manufacturers.

Including a blow to the enterprises of the Russian oligarchs Alexei Mordashov (owns the world’s largest manufacturer of plywood “Sveza”) and Vladimir Evtushenkova (through Segezha Group owns Vyatsky plywood combine).

At the same time, the permanent duties were somewhat lower than the temporary. For the “coarse”, their size decreased from 15.9 percent to 14.4, and for the Vyatka plywood plant – from 15.7 percent to 14.85. With respect to the Syktyvkar plywood plant and the Zezrtovsky PKK, the duties amounted to 15.72 percent and 15.8 percent, respectively.

Preliminary investigation of the European regulator showed that Russian companies constantly underestimate the price of export goods. From 2017 to 2021, it decreased by almost ten percent – from 646 to 584 euros per ton.

The question of the replacement of temporary duties to the permanent was considered at the meeting of the Committee on Tools for the Trade Protection of the European Commission in mid-October. Then the decision was not accepted, but Russian companies considered it very likely.

in “Coze” did not rule out that they would challenge this decision in court instances, and also stressed that they would shift their expenses on European consumers. For a market share, the company does not fear, as it evaluates the market as very deficient.

In July, the Russian Association of Wooden House Building complained about the lack of wood because of too much exports. At the same time, the organization considered insufficient efforts that take power.
