System76 is working on creating a new user environment

System76 specializes in the production of laptops, PCs and servers supplied with Linux. For pre-installation, the Ubuntu Linux is developing – Pop! _Os . After the transition of Ubuntu on the UNITY shell in 2011 in the Pop! _OS distribution, its user environment was proposed on the basis of the modified GNOME Shell shell and several extensions to GNOME Shell. After the return of Ubuntu on GNOME in 2017 in Pop! _OS continued to supply their shell, which in the summer release was transformed into the desktop COSMIC . The use of GNOME technologies continued in COSMIC, but conceptual changes are made beyond additions to GNOME Shell.

In accordance with the new plan, System76 intends to completely get away from building a user environment based on GNOME Shell and develop a new desktop, Applying RUST language when developing.
