The international team of researchers discovered the first famous Homo Naedi skull in South Africa. The description of the mysterious remains, whose age is about 250 thousand years, published in two articles in the magazine Paleoanthropology.
Skull Anthropologists found in 2017 South Africa in the cave system ascending star. It was found in a narrow pass – 15 centimeters width and 80 centimeters long – just 12 meters from the Cave of Dynage, where in 2015 the remains of Homo Naledi were first discovered, one of the ancestors of a modern man. The other remains of the body of the deceased at the age of four-six years have not been preserved. He received the name of the fly – from the word “letimale”, in the language of the Netswan meaning “Lost”.
The skull itself consists of 28 fragments and six teeth. “This is the first discovered partial Skull of the child Homo Naledi, which gives us an idea of all the stages of the life of this wonderful look,” notes the lead author of the study, the Associate Professor of the University of Louisiana Juliet Brofi. The brain size of the fly is from 480 to 610 cubic centimeters, which, according to scientists calculations, is 90-95 percent of the brain volume of an adult individual.
Age of Fly determine until it was possible. The age of the remains of H. Naledi, found nearby, is about 245-331 thousand years. According to researchers, the skull refers to the same period. The cause of death Felt also remains a mystery – no traces from teeth of predators or padelvers have not been found on the skull, not also found evidence that the remains were transferred to the passage of water. According to scientists, this means that the remains of the fly have been placed in the passage of its relatives.
