Capture the sounds of the prehistoric caves of the Vézère to restore them in opera; Create a “legal rhapsody”, from the parliamentary archives of the 1905 law on the separation of the Church and the State, which mixes historical documents, dialogue reports and debates; divert plastic waste that invade sailors to recycle them into host furniture; Design a glass chandelier from the flora of the Park of Bussy-Rabutin Castle (Côte-d’Or); Imagine contemplation furniture consisting of lime, straw, black wheat for Barnenez cairn (Finistère); etc.

Such are some of the 264 artistic projects that have just been selected as part of the new worlds new worlds. With a budget of 30 million euros funded by the recovery plan, this operation, wanted by Emmanuel Macron, aims to “restore a horizon after the health crisis and create a new dialogue between the state and the artists”, insists the entourage of the president. In this context, Monday, November 8, the Head of State had to receive, at the Elysee, the laureates of this “call for creations”.

These 264 projects mixing all the disciplines (85 emanating from collective) are carried by 430 artists. Unknown or known (like musicologist François Meïmoun, the scope of Maroussia Pourpoint, the plastic and mathematician Laurent Derobert, the painter Xinyi Cheng, etc.), 60% of them are under 40 years old. Part of these future creations “will resonate” with heritage sites managed by the National Monuments Center or the Littoral Conservatory.

The artistic committee responsible for the selection received some 3,200 projects: “A wonderfully scary figure”, summarizes its president, Bernard Blistene, former director of the National Museum of Modern Art, at the Georges-Pompidou Center. How did the choice operated? “We have privileged the originality, the singularity, the generosity of the projects and have researched a balance between the disciplines,” he explains. Thus 30% of the proposals belong to the visual arts, 22% of the living show and music, 15% of design, and 26% are multidisciplinary.

“It was not a question of providing a financial deposit to existing projects, but to listen to the aspiration of the artists, ask them,” What do you think, what do you dream? ” We left with their wishes and will accompany them throughout the creative process, “said the Elysée.
