Researchers from Korea and the United States have developed a new way to deliver molecules in skin cells, similar to its principle on the mechanism of medical cans. Dedicated to the promising method of delivering vaccines from COVID-19 The article of scientists was published in the journal Science Advances.
To combat a coronavirus infection pandemic, a variety of vaccines developed, the action of a significant number of which is based on the operation of nucleic acids. The latter penetrate the host cells and cause proteins causing an immune response. However, if nucleic acids are not protected with transfections, they will quickly degrade.
Researchers from the University of Ratgeres and Genene Life Science found a new way of delivery of nucleic acids, on the principle of work similar to medical cans. After administration of DNA using a special pump, the pressure at the injection site decreases to the level of less atmospheric. In this case, the areas of the skin are created areas of voltage and relaxation – which leads to the injection of DNA molecules into the cells.
During the experiments on mice, the introduction of a DNA vaccine against coronavirus caused a strong immune response – 100 times stronger than with normal injection. Currently, researchers begin the second phase of clinical trials – already in humans.
