Scientists have created an acute knife from a tree

American scientists have come up with a new eco-friendly method of manufacturing sharp knives – from wood. The products created by the new technology were three times sharper knives from the habitual person of stainless steel, reports Eurekalert.

Chemists from the University of Maryland in the United States removed its “weak part” from the tree, making it soft – hemicellulose and lignin, while retaining the cellulose structure, so it became 23 times more stronger. It is noted that after removing the lignin, the wood became more flexible and fragile, but this problem was solved by pressing the material at high temperatures. Finally, the finished material specialists were covered with mineral oil to prevent absorbing in water water.

As a result of the treated wood, a table was made, which repeatedly cut the steaks of medium roasters and soaps, like any other kitchen dishes. At the same time, he did not lose his properties. Researchers assured that knives from such a tree can be sharpened in the same way as metallic.

Earlier it became known that in Yakutia, specialists in the field of chemical technologies and materials science, with the support of the Arctic Innovation Center of the Ammosov, the Unique Frost-resistant Material, capable of withstanding temperatures from minus 70 to plus 200 degrees.
