In American society, many hidden conflicts of the era of racial discrimination are preserved. The associate professor of sociology from the University of Central Florida (UCF) Amanda Kuntz was told about the reason for such a state of affairs in conversation with “Tape.ru”.
“Today they [conflicts] go to the surface, because they were silent for too long. This leads to bursts of mutual accusations and black and white rhetoric, when a person has only two ways: either to support one of the parties, or to host it” , – explained sociologist.
Kunz believes that the issues of racial discrimination are too complex and multiplied to respond to the slogans and the search for the guilty. Nevertheless, she believes that there is a way to resolve the conflict between opponents and supporters of Black Lives Matter (BLM): a long and impartial study of racial discrimination issues.
in the spring and summer of 2020 in dozens of US cities passed mass protests of BLM, accompanied by riots and collisions with the police, due to the death of the African America George Floyd. In some states, protest shares have grown into rebellion with pogroms, robbery, shooting and arson. 114 policemen were injured in the riots. Damage caused by protesters is estimated at 1-2 billion dollars.
Problems of equality and discrimination on a racial basis were one of the central themes of the project “Renta.ru” called “The Problems of the First World”. Materials are combined with the theme of the crisis of liberal values in the Western world and split in society. They are talking about how the ideas of freedom and universal equality turn into a tool of oppression, and the struggle for the rights of some groups of people turns into the placelessness of others.
