At the site of the Institute of Medical Biological Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the third stage of the international experiment Sirius (Scientific International Research In Unique Terrestrial Station) starts. Within the framework of this 240-daily insulating study, 70 experiments will be carried out related to the preparation for the further development of space by a person.
In the course of an experiment imitating the flight on the moon, it is planned to collect scientific data on a variety of problems that the crew of the space expedition will have to face:
- Classic Adverse Space Flight Factors and Hermocamer Experiment: Sensory Defense, Monotonia, Social Contact Limit, Limited Residential Volume and
- Controlled Habitat;
- Autonomous Interplanetary Flight Factors, including Limit Expedition resources and extracurricular activities on the surface of the planet;
- Professional crew activities (docking of transport ships, landing of the lunar module, robotic management);
- Communication delay up to 5 minutes in one direction;
- Formation of a mixed on gender and nationality of the crew composition;
- Perform joint international experiments in close cooperation with research and research director;
- testing of abnormal situations.
Participants in the experiment, as well as members of the international crew of the Sirius-21 mission, will be: Oleg Blinov (Russia), Victoria Kirichenko (Russia), Ekaterina Karyakina (Russia), William Brown (USA), Ashley Kovalski (USA) and Saleh Omar Al Ameri (UAE).
Previous two steps of experiment – Sirius-17 and Sirius-19 were conducted in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Within the framework of the first stage, imitating the 17-day cosmic flight, the features of the adaptation of the human body were studied to the terms of insulation in the gerotobject. In the experiment, together with five Russian volunteers, a citizen of Germany participated. In the second stage, the duration of the experiment reproducing the real cosmic flight to the moon, increased to 120 days. Four Russians and two US citizens took part in it.
