The Constitutional Commission presented a finalized version of the updated Constitution of Belarus to the President of the country Alexander Lukashenko. About it reports BelTA.
“I received the last option, the prescribed option, the Constitution, taking into account our former agreements in the Working Group, met. Today we will try to talk on topics that are acute and important for our country,” the president said.
Lukashenko noted that the main changes should concern public power. For example, according to the head of state, it is important to consolidate the role of the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, as well as redistribute the authority between government bodies. The Belarusian leader also warned against the destruction of the power system that exists in modern Belarus.
President Alexander Lukashenko declared the need to change the Constitution against the background of protests who had engulfed Belarus after the election of the head of state in August 2020. He argued that after the adoption of a new version of the Basic Law leaves his post.
