Alcohol use does not reduce the risks of premature death, found out scientists from the University of Greifswald in Germany. It turned out that people are usually refused by people with diseases that reduce life expectancy. It is this factor that leads to a difference in mortality, reported in a study published in the PLOS Medicine magazine.
German scientists analyzed data on 4028 adult citizens of the country. In 1996-1997, respondents aged 18-64 filled the questionnaires on the state of their health, drinking alcohol and drugs, as well as the presence of other bad habits. Data on mortality researchers received as a result of 20-year observation of patients.
Specialists dispelled the myth about the benefits of moderate alcohol use. They denied the popular view that alcoholic beverages have a positive effect on the human body.
“For a long time it was believed that the consumption of alcohol from low to moderate may have a positive effect on health. It was based on the data that the sober was dying earlier than weakly or moderately drinking people,” said Ulrich John Head from Medical School of Greifswald University.
It turned out that the premature death of the sinwives is not connected with the abandonment of alcohol, but with such reasons as chronic diseases, daily smoking, drug intake, alcohol abuse in the past and followed health disorders. Accordingly, the protective effect of alcohol is not manifested in this situation.
Earlier, the virologist allowed alcohol after vaccination from COVID-19. In his opinion, the usual dose of alcohol in the form of two glasses of wine will not harm health.
