Uzbekistan: restricted access to Instagram and YouTube

The State Inspectorate for Control in Informatization and Telecommunications of Uzbekistan (Uzvosnasorate) has restricted access to several social networks, messengers and video stations, including Facebook, Telegram, YouTube, Instagram and Odnoklassniki. This is November 3 reports Podrobno.uz.

The authorities claim that the social networks violated the rules for processing personal data, refusing to keep them within the country, as well as ignoring the queries of the Uzvozoratus.

At the end of October, the President of the Republic of Shavkat Mirzieev signed a law on tougher punishment for violating the legislation on personal data. The relevant article of the Criminal Code has completed the provisions that directly concern the activities of social networks and messengers.
