COVID-19: less than 10% of French people are concerned by end of free screening tests

Only unvaccinated and non-prescription adults will be affected by the measure that takes effect on October 15th.

From Friday, October 15, PCR and antigenic tests for CVIV-19 become paid, between 22 and 45 euros. A revolution ? Not really, since a vast majority of French people will continue to benefit from free.

The Ministry of Health has specified the methods of taking care of these tests, which makes it possible to estimate the number of people concerned. Free rule remains for:

  • all the French who completed their vaccinal scheme, nearly 49.3 million people As at October 13, a figure that will continue to grow;
  • All minors: They are nearly 14.5 million in France, according to INSEE, of which 3.4 million are already vaccinated. There are therefore about 11 million children concerned;
  • All the inhabitants of Guyana, Guadeloupe and Martinique until the end of the state of emergency health in these territories (fixed on November 15), as well as all the inhabitants of Mayotte, without end date. Understanding children and people vaccinated in these territories (where the vaccination rate oscillates between 23% and 33%), it amounts to adding about 500,000 adults, according to our estimates.

We arrive at more than 60.8 million people for whom free persons pays, provided they are proof. It remains less than 6.6 million people, out of 67.4 million French, which will have to pay their so-called “comfort” tests, or 9.8% of the population.

And again, this figure is very overvalued, since it does not integrate the following situations, whose evaluation is more complex:

  • high school students over 18 (who, by definition, will be more and more numerous over the school year);
  • People with contraindications for vaccination or recent CVIV-19 recovery certificate;
  • contact cases identified by health insurance;
  • Patients with medical prescription.

Before the “end of free”, the number of tests has already fallen and is approximately 3.2 million per week, after a peak registered at 5.7 million in mid-August, when implementing Sanitary Place.
