The new President of Estonia Alar Caris announced his readiness to meet with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, reports TASS.
“If there is some question, and it is well prepared, and this is a good reason to talk to Mr. Putin, then, of course, I would do it, but not only with him, but with other world powers,” said Caris.
He called on to establish a dialogue with all neighboring countries. “We want a relationship with all the neighbors. Russia is a difficult neighbor, but this does not mean that we should not talk,” said the head of the republic.
Earlier, Caris criticized the idea to abandon the Russian language in schools. “I do not believe that in a Russian-speaking class with a Russian-speaking teacher from tomorrow, figuratively speaking, the day everything would be taught on Estonian,” said Caris.
He also opposed the idea to make only Estonian-speaking higher education. According to the new president, such actions will be “some discrimination slightly”.
